Cross Mongolia from North via central part to Gobi desert. Visit nomads, reindeer herder, eco-natural excursion in Khuvsgul lake and mountains. Discover the treasure of the Gobi desert. Horse and camel trek adventure. Tour starts from Ulaanbaatar to fly the north part of Mongolia; Khuvsgul province. Then we will drive to the south part of Mongolian Gobi desert through the central part of Green mountain range. There we will visit a volcano, hot spring and monastery. We will drive 5 days through Gobi desert’s fascinating nature.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to Khuvsgul Lake, Mongolia
Day 1 Murun town, Khuvsgul lake Early in the morning driver will pick you up from your accommodation and transfer you to the airport for domestic flight to Murun town in Khuvsgul province. At the Murun airport, your tour team guide and driver will pick you up. And drive to Janhai, the bank of the Huvsgul lake. On the way, we will see Central Asia’s historical monument deer stone complex. We will arrive afternoon in the bank of the lake. Hike through a pure blue lake, and relax in tourist camp. Road length: 130 km
Day 2: Khuvsgul Lake, Mongolia
Day 2 Reindeer herder visit, horseback riding After breakfast, we will make a horse riding to the forest to see the Reindeer tribes (Tsaatan people), who live in a tepee. Visit reindeer family and discover their culture. Horse riding in wild nature is a great adventure. If you are riding the first time, don’t be afraid. Local horse guide will instruct you well. We will ride back to camp. Total 6 hours of horse riding and picnic lunch in a forest. Here, we will hike through Hordil Sardig Mountain Range.
Day 3: Khuvsgul Lake, Mongolia to Erdenet, Mongolia
Day 3 Shine Ider village We will drive to the central part of Mongolia. Today we will visit nomadic family. Stay in Shine Ider trans-village. On the way, we will have lunch. Stay in tourist Ger camp. Road length: 300 km
Day 4: Erdenet, Mongolia to Khorgo Trekhiin Tsagaan Nuur, Mongolia
Day 4 Horgo volcano Morning drive to Horgo volcano and Terhiin Tsagaan lake. Around lunchtime, we will arrive at the destination. Hike to Horgo extinct volcano. Green meadow hills covered by nomadic family’s mushroom-shaped Gers and their animal graze freely everywhere. The landscape is fascinating through a volcano. We will visit nomadic family here. Stay in nomadic family’s spare Ger. Road length: 120 km
Day 5: Khorgo Trekhiin Tsagaan Nuur, Mongolia to Tsenkher Hot Spring Resort, Altan-Ovoo, Mongolia
Early in the morning, drive to hot spring. On the way, we will visit an ethnic museum in Tsetserleg town. Lunch in the restaurant and drive farther to Tsenkher hot spring. Relax and enjoy mountain healing hot spring. Stay over in tourist Ger camp. Road length 220 km
Day 6: Tsenkher Hot Spring Resort, Altan-Ovoo, Mongolia to Tovkhon xiid, Mongolia
Day 6 Explore Tuvkhun mountain temple Just in over an hour drive, we will arrive in a nomadic family. Whom, the guest house we will stay. We will hike through the forest to the top of the mountain for 3 km. If you want, you can ride a horse. You will see a beautiful view of the mountain and a small temple from the top. Road length: 70 km
Day 7: Tovkhon xiid, Mongolia to Ongi Monastery, Saikhan-Ovoo, Mongolia
Day 7 Ongi-Gobi, ruined temple Today our Gobi desert tour begins with an off-road drive. We will have lunch in a restaurant. Afternoon arrives in Gobi – Ongi monastery. Here you can hike through a river or just wandering around little black hills. Road length 310 km
Day 8: Ongi Monastery, Saikhan-Ovoo, Mongolia to Flaming Cliffs, Mongolia
Day 8 Flaming Cliff - Bayanzag Morning, we will hike and see the ruined temple from the top of the hill. Farther, drive through the steppe. You can stop for a picture of landscapes, camels, vultures and other birds whenever you want. Evening, when the sun gets down, we will hike through Flaming Cliffs and see how it changes the color. It was the homeland of dinosaurs during the Jurassic period. From this place, very first time dinosaur’s eggshell was found in the world. The emptiness in the vast steppe, make you refreshed. Road length 150 km
Day 9: Bayanzag, Bulgan, Mongolia to Hongorïn Els, Mongolia
Day 9 Hongor sand dunes, camel trek Today we will drive to sand dunes. The way to Hongor sand dune has a fascinating nature scene. Barren black mountains, lush steppe, the ground covered with wind-eroded black pebbles. You will discover the wilderness of the Gobi Desert. Over 3 hours’ drive, we will get to camp. And after lunch, we will visit camel herder nomadic family. You will ride a camel through the bottom of the dunes. Afternoon or evening, when the bright sun gets down, we will climb to dune. The top of dune is over 200 meters high and steep. Sand is loose. Your foot will stick to it. It requires a little bit effort. After challenging yourself in hot day climb up to dune, you will see brilliant sightseeing. Sand dunes and Three beauty mountain range stay paralleled in the endless lush steppe. Road length 155 km
Day 10: Hongorïn Els, Mongolia
Today we will relax in the camp. Afternoon hiking to Gob’s stream and Hongor river. Optional sand dune hiking.
Day 11: Hongorïn Els, Mongolia to Yolin Am Ice Field, Mongolia
Day 11 Vulture Gorge- Yliin am Today we will drive along with sand dune and Three Beauty Mountain range by off-road. When we arrive in Vulture Gorge, we will visit the Gobi - natural museum. Hike through beautiful meadow valley with stream and gorge. Birded vultures on the high rocks, pikas on the green land will entertain you through hiking. We will search for Ibex. Gorge is narrow as just 3 or 4 people go through at the same time. Relax in Ger camp. Road length 170 km
Day 12: Yolin Am Ice Field, Mongolia to Tsagaan Suvarga (White Stupa), Mongolia
Day 12 Tsagaan suvraga Bronz-Age’s rock painting Drive to Tsagaan suvraga cliffs. The cliffs are surrounded by red, green, yellow colourful mads. On the way, you will see folk of vultures soaring on carrion, camels and the scene of the Gobi desert. Afternoon we will arrive in a destination. Hike through the bottom of an ancient sea. And we will discover the Bronz Age’s rock painting in the wild Gobi desert. This is one of the remote Gobi’s landscape. Road length 210 km
Day 13: Tsagaan Suvarga (White Stupa), Mongolia to Baga Gazriin Chuluu, Mongolia
Day 13 Baga gazriin chuluu Drive to next interesting place, 35 square km granite rock-mountain range in the steppe. In this rocky mountain range, we will explore a small cave, ruined temple in a rocky valley. Enjoy Gobi lushes, flowers and search. Stay over in tourist Ger camp.
Day 14: Baga Gazriin Chuluu, Mongolia to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
Early in the morning drive to Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to your accommodation. Road length 250 km
