Ostrog – Ždrebaonik – Dajbabe
In this tour, with Monte Mare Travel agency, you will visit Ostrog Monastery, built in the 17th century. It is located in the area of Bjelopavlići, on the cliffs of the Ostroška Greda, 25 km away from Nikšić. It was founded by the Herzegovinian metropolitan Vasily, who was buried there in 1671, and later canonized. St. Vasily Ostroški is known as the Saints Wonderman. Believers of all religions from different parts of the world visit this monastery in large numbers, and for the citizens of Montenegro, it is the greatest sanctuary. The monastery is in third place when it is a word about visits in the Christian world, immediately after Christ’s tomb in Jerusalem and the Holy Mountain in Greece.
Then, you will visit Monastery Ždrebaonik in Danilovgrad, which was for centuries the center of all events, his fate was also the fate of his people.
We finish the tour, visiting Monastery Dajbabe near Podgorica, created with a real miracle. It was founded in 1897 and the natural form of the cave was used as a place for the church. Later the cave was expanded to get the shape of the base of the church, with auxiliary chapels.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Podgorica, Montenegro to Ostrog Monastery, Montenegro
Departure by appointment. Drive to Ostrog Monastery (45 min to 2 hours and 30 min, depending on the place – city of departure). Coffee break and /or breakfast at the restaurant on the way to the monastery – optionally (approx. 30 min). Arrival at Ostrog monastery. Free time for sightseeing of the Upper and Lower monastery. In the Upper monastery we will bow to the relics of the great Saint Vasily Ostroški and hear and see incredible tales of Ostrog miracles (approx. 1h and 30 min). Departure for the monastery Ždrebaonik. Lunch at one the restaurant on the way to the monastery – optionally (approx. 1h). Arrival at the monastery Ždrebaonik. Free sightseeing hours (approx. 30 min). Drive to the Dajbabe Monastery (30 min). Arrival at Dajbabe Monastery. Free sightseeing hours (30 min). Return. The end of the tour.
