FLY TO ULGII Fly to Ulgii town. Our tour guide will pick you up at airport and take you to your hotel which will be the one of the best. After the lunch at a restaurant, you will have time to explore Ulgii and its surroundings with your guide. Visit the town museum, the open-air market and a hill top lookout that gives good view of the town. Some rest at your hotel before the dinner. Free time to walk in the town center after the dinner. Overnight.
AT EAGLE HUNTER FAMILY Have breakfast and start driving out of the town. Destination is a nomadic family and the host is an eagle hunter. The drive is around 2 hour. Arrive at the family and feel the warm welcome. Get insight into nomadic lifestyle and eagle hunting tradition. Photograph the golden eagle. Drive back to town in the late afternoon.
FESTIVAL DAY 1 In the morning head to the town stadium where the amazing festival take place along with the locals. Take your seat and enjoy the festival athmosphere and opening ceremony performances. Have the tasty festival dish "huushuur". Watch the first rounds of traditional wrestling competition.
FESTIVAL DAY 2 The second day’s main event is horse racing competition which takes place out of the town. Almost all of the town people will drive to the finish line in the mountain. The Mongolian horse race is a cross-country event, with races 15–30 km long. The length of each race is determined by horses’ age.
In the morning the drive heads toward Altai Tavan Bogd national park through beutiful mountain hills. The destination is the scenic Milk river valley, entrance to the majestic Tavan Bogd mountains. Drive takes around 7 hours including en route picknic lunch. Set up your tent by the river bank. The valley is summer camp for herder families (Tuvan people). Treks to the mountains are supported by the pack camels and horses from these families. Spend the night in this valley.
Begin your trek to the magnificent Potanin Glacier below the majestic Tavan Bogd peaks. Experience the stunning landscapes as you hike higher up the hills. Enjoy your packed lunch amidst the breathtaking scenery. After a challenging walk, arrive by the Poatnin glacier moraine and set up camp. Enjoy an evening under the starry sky. Tent.
Today is the ascent day to Malchin Peak, one of the highest five peaks but it is a non-technical ascent. After about an hour walk along the glacier moraine, you will put the first stpes to the edge of the mountain. Admire the panoramic views as you climb higher, with snow-capped peaks all around. Reach the summit and bask in the sense of accomplishment, capturing the moment with stunning photographs. Return descent to the camp for overnight.
BACK TO THE VALLEY. In the morning take a return hike down to the Milk river valley. It is a easy hike due to the downhill trail. Set up your tent and take some rest. You might prefer either a short horseback ride or just walk to a attractive small blue lake on the hill top nearby. Enjoy the rest of your time as you lik. Tent.
DRIVE BACK TO ULGII. Saying goodbye to the majestic TavanBogd and Milk river drive back to Ulgii. Check in your hotel and throw yourself to the soft bed for good rest. Have dinner at a restaurant. Walk in the town center and visit souvenir shops for hand embroidered crafts.
