Pamir Highway 6 Days Special
About this tour
When you have limited time in Tajikistan but you still want to travel on the Pamir Highway. On this tour, you will be able to visit the major tourist destinations and landmarks including the Vakhan Valley.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Dushanbe, Tajikistan to Kalaikhum, Tajikistan
In the morning at 8 am, we start driving to Qalai Khumb via the South Road (6-7 hours’ drive). You can make a short stop near the Nurek Dam and take photos from the top of the mountain and meet some locals selling their products (fresh fruits and vegetables, dry fruits, etc… along the roadside small “market” near the Nurek. On the way, we will also visit the Hulbuk Fort and cross by the Khoja Mumin salt mountain which is one of the largest salt minerals in the area. You will do an hour lunch stop in the town of Kulob Overnight in a guesthouse in Qalai Khumb center. Facilities available: Free Wi-fi, shower, western-style toilet. 1200m
Day 2: Kalaikhum, Tajikistan to Khorog, Tajikistan
Earyly morning we leave Kalai Khumb for Khorog 2300m (280 km and 6-7 hours’ drive.) to avoid long waiting at the road construction site. After we cross the blockage area we have breakfast and make few short stops including one near the Rushon district to visit the Vomar Fort at the Panj river bank overlooking Afghanistan. Arrive in Khorog, transfer to a hotel, and take a rest. In the afternoon visit the Khorog Botanical Garden-one of the most famous landmark in Khorog. Dinner will be served in a local restaurant with live music. Overnight in Khorog.
Day 3: Khorog, Tajikistan to Langar - Лангар, Zoogvand, Tajikistan
On this day we embark on our journey towards the ancient Silk Road the Vakhan valley with a short stop over at the famous Garmchashma natural outdoor Hot Spring. You can take a bath in the spring if you wish to (the spring is believed to “cure” and be useful for any skin-related disease. Continue driving to the Ishkashim district center and further up the Vakhan valley and visit the Silk Road ancient sites (the Qahqaha and Yamchun fortress. Next, visit a museum of a 19century local Sufi Master (Mubaraki Vakhani), the Buddhist stupa in Vrang village. Overnight in the village of Zong in a nice guesthouse 2800m (total distance 240km including the side drives)
Day 4: Langar petroglyphs, Ишкошим, Tajikistan to Khorog, Tajikistan
Drive to the Eastern Pamir via the Khargushi Pass (4400m) by a short side drive to visit the Bulunkul Lake with a view to the Yashilkul Lake 3750m. After lunch depart the Bulunkul village for Khorog by descending the Koytezak Pass 4200m. Arrive at the Jelondy hot spring and stop for lunch. You can take a bath in the hot spring. Leave Jelondy and continue driving the M41 arrive in Khorog and stay overnight
Day 5: Khorog, Tajikistan to Kalaikhum, Tajikistan
In the morning visit the Khorog Central Park, and Khorog Central Bazaar and have lunch in a local restaurant. Depart Khorog for Qalai Khumb at 1200m in the afternoon to avoid the long wait near the construction site. Arrive in Qalai Khumb and stay overnight.
Day 6: Kalaikhum, Tajikistan to Dushanbe, Tajikistan
Return to Dushanbe (750m) via the classic north route (to avoid repeating part of the Pamir Highway Southern brunch. It is an unpaved road but with good scenery. On the way, you will make a few stops including one on the top of the Khobu Robot Pass 3250m and at the Blue Lake near Tawildara. Arrive in Dushanbe in the early afternoon. Dinner will be arranged in a nice restaurant in Dushanbe at the choice of the guests. Overnight in a hotel/ or hostel in Dushanbe.
