”The Singing Barchan” – inimitable wonder of nature. This is a natural phenomenon on the right bank of the Ili River is famous for the fact that in dry weather the sands make sounds similar to the melody of the organ. This huge dune is up to 100 meters high and spreads over a distance of 3 kilometers. “The Singing Barchan” is an unforgettable experience, its roaring and vibrations are caused by barely discernible sloughing of sand from the slopes. Friction caused by the motion of dry sand particles, in combination with dry air, electrifies them, resulting in vibration and favorable conditions for resonance to create powerful sound waves, which, by reflection from dense soil, cause the barchan’s vibration.
