Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Tunis, Tunisie to Tataouine, Tunisie
Your adventure begins with a scenic drive south from Tunis, leaving the city behind for the tranquil landscapes of Tataouine. You'll arrive at Domaine Oued el Khil, a peaceful homestay and eco-farm where you can settle in and explore the beautiful natural surroundings. The day culminates in a truly special evening: a delicious, homemade dinner shared with your host, offering your first authentic taste of southern hospitality.
Day 2: Tataouine, Tunisie to Guermassa, Tunisie
After a homemade breakfast, your day is dedicated to exploring the Tataouine region with a local guide. You'll visit the iconic fortified granaries (Ksour) and be welcomed by a local family for a traditional lunch—a truly authentic moment of connection. The journey continues to the breathtaking Berber villages of Chenini and Douiret, culminating in a short sunset hike to the stunning, 'secret' village of Guermessa. You’ll then return to the Domaine for a final, well-deserved homemade dinner.
Day 3: Guermassa, Tunisie to Douz, Tunisie
After a final homemade breakfast, you'll journey to Douz, the "Gateway to the Sahara." The drive takes around 4 hours. You won't get bored because the road is so scenic! Once we reach the desert camp, you'll meet your nomad guides and embark on a 30-minute camel ride (or walk) into the dunes to find the perfect spot for the night. Watch as they expertly set up your camp while the sun casts its golden glow over the sand. As dusk settles, you’ll gather around the campfire to help prepare 'sand bread' and enjoy a delicious dinner, before settling into your tent for a magical night under the stars.
Day 4: Douz, Tunisie to Tozeur, Tunisie
Wake up to a stunning desert sunrise and enjoy a traditional nomad breakfast. After a peaceful camel ride back from the dunes, you'll have time to freshen up, with an option for more fun like sandboarding or a 4x4 tour for those seeking a final thrill. We then journey to Tozeur, the desert's vibrant capital. The drive takes 2 hours and prepare you camera: we will be crossing the famous desert lake! In the afternoon, get prepared for a guided walking tour through the beautiful brickwork of its historic Medina, complete with a stop at a charming rooftop café. The day ends as you check into your stylish boutique hotel for the night.
Day 5: Tozeur, Tunisie
After breakfast, prepare for a day of breathtaking natural beauty on a full-day excursion around Tozeur. You will venture into the dramatic Mides Canyons, discover the surprising desert waterfalls of Chebika, and explore the lush paradise of the Tamerza mountain oasis. A delightful lunch will be served in a serene oasis setting, offering a perfect pause in your adventure. You'll then return to your boutique hotel in Tozeur for your final evening.
Day 6: Tozeur, Tunisie to Tunisie
After a final Tozeurian breakfast, check out from your accommodation and begin your journey back to Tunis, filled with memories of your off-the-beaten-track adventure.
