Day 1: Samarkand, Uzbekistan to Seven Lakes, Tajikistan
Day 1: Samarkand – Border – Sarazm – Panjakent – Seven Lakes – Ruknobod Your journey begins in the legendary city of Samarkand, where echoes of the Silk Road still shape the atmosphere. After meeting your driver, travel toward the Tajikistan border. Crossing on foot, you are welcomed by your Tajik team — and with it, a subtle but powerful shift in landscape and rhythm. Sarazm — Where It All Began Step into one of Central Asia’s oldest known settlements, over 5,500 years old. Among its quiet ruins, the foundations of early civilization begin to take form — trade, agriculture, and human connection. Panjakent — Gateway to the Fann Mountains Pause at the lively bazaar — a vibrant introduction to Tajik daily life. Here, colors, scents, and local interactions create your first cultural immersion. Into the Seven Lakes The road winds into the heart of the Fann Mountains, following the Shing River. Each lake reveals a different shade of blue and green — shaped by nature, enriched by legend. Scenic stops at all lakes Gentle walks and photography. Encounters with small mountain villages. Perched above 3,000 meters, Voru feels untouched by time. Stone houses climb the mountainside in layered formations, creating a striking visual — almost like a natural fortress shaped by centuries of human adaptation. Here, life follows ancient rhythms. Guided walk through narrow paths and traditional homes Insight into Sogdian heritage and ancient traditions. Day 3: Ruknobod – Iskanderkul – Dushanbe Depart early, transitioning from remote mountain life toward the capital. Iskanderkul — Legend of Alexander. Set at the foot of towering peaks, Iskanderkul is one of Tajikistan’s most iconic lakes. According to legend, Alexander the Great (Iskander) once passed through this region. Walk along the lakeshore. Visit nearby Snake Lake. Light hike to the powerful Fann Waterfall, often called the “Niagara of the Fann Mountains”. Continue onward to Dushanbe, where modern life meets tradition. Khujand Fortress — a stronghold with over 2,500 years of history. Panjshanbe Bazaar — one of the oldest and most vibrant markets in the region. Muslihiddin Memorial Complex — a peaceful cultural landmark. After lunch: Transfer to the Oybek border Cross on foot. Meet your Uzbek driver. Transfer to Tashkent End of the journey!
