Turgen waterfalls are one of the most frequently visited places of interest in the Almaty region. It is located in a beautiful gorge in Ile-Alatau National Park. There are 7 waterfalls in Turgen Gorge. The most frequently visited are the first "Medvezhiy” Waterfall and the second "Kayrakskiy Waterfall". The first fall (30 meters high) is situated in a picturesque place among rock overhangs. Rocks in the area are damaged by earthquakes and have impressions of plants from the glacier period. 300 meters up the bridge that is usually used to get to “Medvezhiy” Waterfall, there is a "source of beauty", a wellspring with tasty cold water. Kayrakskiy Waterfall is situated about 3 hours of walking from the forestry department. The height of the main stream water drop – is 40 meters, and if we take into account the overall height including all rapids – 74 meters. The gorge is also famous for its relic Chin-Turgen mossy spruce forests that grovel and form a complete spruce carpet. Excursions to Turgen waterfalls become more eventful due to visits to the Ostrich and Trout farms that are on the way.
