About Alpamys

Hello dear Travellers! I am a Kazakh nomad living in the Western part of Mongolia in the famous Altai Mountains. My village is close to the Chinese border about 5 hours from the capital of Western Mongolia, Bayan-Ulgii. I live with my wife and my three kids still like my ancestors as nomads. In the Winter, we stay in the village in a stone house but in Spring, we move our stock (cattle, horses, sheep and camels) to the spring destination and we live until the snow comes in Yurts living from our animals. My father is Dalaikhan Boshai, a famous eagle hunter and he passed this thousand of year old tradition (also UNESCO intangible world heritage listed tradition) on to me. We still go hunting together with our eagles as our ancestors did before. Please come and visit me and my family! We are happy to share with any interested traveller the nomadic way of life!!

Stay with me and my family and experience how a nomadic Kazakh family lives in the Altai Mountains. Our village, Altai Sum, is situated around 5 hours from Bayan-Ulgii, the capital of Western Mongolia. We can pick you up at the airport/hotel in Ulgii or Khovd and bring you to our home. Most of the time, we live in our yurts in the mountains surrounding Altai Sum. You will live with us in the yurt and be part of our family for as long as you like (up to 14 days). Escape the modern, hectic and consumer-driver world and really go off-the-beaten-track and experience a real authentic adventure. You will have the chance to learn about their customs and traditions and witness their daily routines. Depending on the season, you may be able to participate in activities such as milking cows or sheep, making dairy products, or helping with the herding of animals. You will also have the opportunity to taste traditional food and drink and learn about the methods of preparation. This experience provides a fascinating insight into a traditional way of life and a chance to connect with the natural world in a meaningful way. We really enjoyed our stay with Alpamys. Thanks a lot for this very cool experience. We met up at the Golden Eagle festival at the Tolbo lake and he took us to his home. The nature is incredible. We stayed at a separate ger and woke up with all the yaks. It was such a special experience. Thank you and we hope to see you another time in the future!

We spent a week with Alpy, Dalaikhan and his family at their summer place in the Altai mountains and it was just magical. For me and my wife, it was the first time in Mongolia and we could not have spent it better. We did not go horseback riding because of our age but just staying with the nomads and participating in their daily life was such a pleasure and a once in a life-time experience
