Juma is a certified guide based in Aktau, on the Mangystau peninsula in western Kazakhstan. She has been organizing jeep tours there since 2018, working with a team of experienced 4WD drivers.
Her trips cover the peninsula's off-road landscapes: Bozzhyra, Sherkala, Tuzbayir salty lake, Torysh valley of round stones, the Shakpak Ata underground mosque, and Kyzylkup. She also arranges longer routes into Karynzharyk and Ustyurt National Park, close to the Turkmen border, and shorter options such as a one-day Aktau city tour to Beket Ata.
Juma guides personally and travels with a driver and a support team in 4WD jeeps, since most routes are largely off-road. Tours run from one day up to seven or eight, with camping in tents or yurts, three meals a day, and drinking water included. Group size is usually two to three people per jeep, with several jeeps traveling together for larger groups, and she builds the itinerary around what guests want to see, from short Bozzhyra day trips to multi-day crossings toward the Turkmen border.
She talks about the region's past as a seabed, pointing out fossils and shark teeth along the way, and plans each route around hiking, stargazing, and the area's panoramas.
Juma guided us through the enchanting Mangystau desert with professionalism and geographical, historical and ethnological expertise. She is an expert and witty guide and I highly recommend her. Guido
