Danke nochmals an Nazar.

After returning from my recent trip to Dushanbe, during which I used your platform, I am writing to report a series of very unpleasant situations involving Nazar—the person from whom I rented a car for my journey.
Several months ago, I booked a car through your platform with Nazar, clearly specifying my requirements: two drivers from Italy and an 11-day journey through Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. After a short negotiation, we agreed on a Lada Niva.
One week before my departure, I received a message via your platform from Nazar, urgently asking to speak by phone. I shared my number, and he informed me that the car was no longer available due to a “road accident” and that he was offering no alternatives. I insisted, explaining that it was impossible to find another vehicle in Tajikistan on such short notice. He then proposed an alternative vehicle—a Toyota 4x4.
As stated from the beginning, my trip was supposed to last 11 days. Nazar initially refused, offering 8, then 9, then 10 days. In the end, he agreed to 11 days, but only with an $80 surcharge. He assured me that both drivers could use the car and that no additional fees would be required at the borders, as everything was included.
Three days before the trip, I received aggressive WhatsApp messages from Nazar, demanding that I provide a detailed day-by-day itinerary for the entire trip.
Upon arrival in Dushanbe, I requested to receive the car at the airport at 1:00 a.m. on June 11, coinciding with my flight’s arrival. He refused and said the only possible time was 8:00 a.m. Eventually, another man—who did not speak English—showed up late with the car. We handed him the full payment, and he told us we could freely travel with the vehicle through Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
The car itself was suitable for this type of trip, but it was dirty, had a strong unpleasant smell, and the tires were underinflated, causing it to pull to the left while driving.
At the Uzbek border, we were stopped by the police, who pointed out that the rental document—written entirely in Russian—listed only one driver, not both. I called Nazar, who arrogantly replied, “I can add a second driver for $80. If you can’t read Russian, that’s not my problem.”
Additionally, we had to pay a $20 entry tax to enter Uzbekistan, which Nazar had not informed us about or covered.
In a later phone call, Nazar aggressively told me that we were not allowed to enter Kyrgyzstan. When I pointed out that the man who delivered the car had told us otherwise, Nazar ignored the comment.
Upon returning to Dushanbe, I received a message from Nazar’s colleague demanding that I return the car at 9:00 a.m. on the last rental day. This is completely unreasonable—as a rental for the entire day should allow return until midnight. When I refused, Nazar sent me a threatening message, saying that I had to return the car immediately or pay an additional $200. Not wanting any trouble, I agreed to return the car at 5:00 p.m.
At that time, the same man who had delivered the car 11 days earlier arrived again. He tried to ask for more money, claiming the car was dirty. However, it was in much better condition than when I had received it, so I refused. We shook hands, and he left.
In summary: the Toyota was a good vehicle and performed exactly as needed. However, I strongly advise against doing business with Nazar. He does not honor agreements, does the opposite of what he promises, and invents excuses to extract more money. I ended up paying an extra $80 for a car I used one day less than agreed. An absolute scam.

We recently rented a car for a camping trip, and our experience was nothing short of a disaster. To start, the car owner was not present at the time of pickup, which was already a red flag. The vehicle was supposed to come equipped with camping gear, including dishes, a gas stove, mattresses, blankets, a table, and chairs. However, when we arrived, the car was completely empty, lacking all the promised equipment. This forced us to delay our trip significantly, costing us precious time and causing a great deal of frustration.
The condition of the car was far below acceptable standards. Many of the car's essential features were either broken or malfunctioning: the lights didn’t work, the handbrake was non-functional, the radio was dead, and several doors couldn’t be opened. To make matters worse, the car began to overheat shortly after we started our journey. We found ourselves in the precarious position of having to manually pump fuel and use our limited water supply to cool the engine.
As if that wasn’t enough, the car’s engine would shut down every 10 minutes, often in dangerous locations. We had to drive with open engine: this was exhausting, extremely loud and incredibly hot (outdoor temperature at this time over 40 Celsius). We were forced to make frequent stops and restart the engine manually, which was both exhausting and nerve-wracking. The rental owner had the audacity to suggest that we simply didn’t know how to drive the vehicle. This was particularly insulting, considering my friend, who was with me on the trip, is a mechanic with excellent driving skills. Without his technical expertise, we would have been stranded multiple times.
The only positive aspect of this ordeal was that the owner eventually arranged for a replacement vehicle. However, even this was marred by his unprofessional behavior, as he treated the owner of the new car unfairly and took advantage of their kindness. This was deeply disappointing, especially since the new car’s owner was incredibly helpful and friendly to us.
In conclusion, we cannot recommend renting a car from this individual under any circumstances. The experience was riddled with issues that could have been dangerous, and the owner's attitude was unprofessional and dismissive. Rent at your own risk.

I had high hopes of being guided by Nazar, when I decided to choose him to be our tour guide in Tajikistan. I found him through Indy Guide and he had good reviews. The itinerary was very detailed, he responded to any questions I had very quickly and all accommodation, transport, food, etc was included in the price. We also seemed to have a good rapport via WhatsApp too once I had paid the deposit and we started conversing on WhatsApp.
My doubts started to set in a week before the trip when I contacted him to say that I was looking forward to the trip. He told me that he wouldn’t be arriving into Dushanbe until the evening of the first day. He told me that we would have another driver instead to pick me and another friend from Samarkand to then drive us to Dushanbe. It took me a couple of days of asking to be provided with the details of the two drivers. He did tell me when I arrived that he sometimes forgets to respond so glad that I kept on asking! It was only on the day that we arrived and waited for the driver to pick us up from Samarkand that he told us how much we owed for both taxis. This should have bean sorted out earlier. In addition it was only also late on to be given the details of the person, who would be guiding us round Dushanbe on day one. This was a friend of Nazar’s who was very engaging and had excellent English. He were happy to tip him.
When we finally met Nazar I found out that we didn’t have a separate driver that I was expecting but that Nazar was to do all the driving.
I wish I had known the following things that occurred on the trip before I had decided to choose Nazar as our guide. If I had known these I wouldn’t have ever contacted him.
Nazar is a driver and not a guide. He didn’t guide us as I would expected. I thought he would tell us more information about the Pamirs as that is where he is from when we got there as I was giving him the benefit of the doubt until then. He was no different when we were there than the rest of the trip!
His use of English is mediocre.
He managed to drive into a ditch near the beginning but of our trip. This was after he spent time looking at his mobile phone, making telephony calls, choosing music to listen to, etc. He blamed driving into the ditch on the air conditioning blowing onto the back of his neck. After this we asked him not to use his mobile phone whilst driving. He only apologised for driving into a ditch when I asked him to. He did tell me that he had apologised after it had happened but none of us heard him say it.
He drove at times too quickly for the road conditions. Lots of Tajiks do this but need to be more considerate when they have paying customers in the car that value lives and want to get back home safely.
He seemed to be tired some of the time due to the driving. He told us that he is contestants driving until October with no break inbetween.
His car dates back to 2007 and which he bought in April 2024. It suffered from multiple issues.
We cut short part of the trip as we were concerned about his driving abilities and the state of the car since we didn’t want drive hundreds of miles more than we needed to. This was in addition to not spend as much time at altitude.
He preferred to spend time on social media, liaising with clients, etc., instead of conversing with us at meal times. He is not engaging nor has the kindness and hospitality that we met in other Tajiks. I’m concerned that if this the way the younger generation are progressing then Tajikistan hospitality will be no more since they’ll be more interested in making money than showing true hospitality.
Before the trip I asked him if there were triple rooms for me and two friends to stay in. This was his response via WhatsApp: “Its better twin rooms because in Some places no tripl room.” The single room supplement was quoted as $150. When we met the friend who required the single room supplement and joined us for the second part of the trip, Nazar told us that this single room was only for hotels as all other accommodation had triple rooms!! We nearly had to share a triple room at the hotel in Dushanbe until I reminded Nazar of the single room supplement. My friend did have to share a room with us in the first guest house on the second part of the trip and nearly had to do so in the next hotel! The only reason that he didn’t was we brought it up with him that evening and I showed him the WhatsApp communication. He clearly had forgotten all about this. We guessed then he just had plucked this figure out of the air when I first asked him about the single supplement.
He told me that he had copied information on the itinerary from other itineraries. This became aparant when we were in Khujand where we had to ask him to take us to various sites before dinner. I don’t think we would have seen them otherwise. In Istaravshan one of my friends had to use his downloaded map to direct Nazar to find sites listed in the itinerary! We told Nazar about the large Lenin bust outside Istaravshan which he knew nothing about.
He only told us information about Tajikistan very sporadically and mostly when we asked him specific questions.
He could be terse and at times gave up speaking to us when we were in the car with him. He told us that he has no free time as he works all year!
He didn’t check up on us to see how we were, whether we needed anything, etc.
His mind seemed to be more on his future clients than giving us his full attention.
When I fainted in a museum he did go and buy bananas and cola for me but then wanted us to leave much sooner than I could have done.
He didn’t introduce us to his family when we stayed at his guesthouse, which we would have normally expected!
He didn’t always translate for us when needed it.
He didn’t organise with one guesthouse for us to be provided with a breakfast to take away.
He didn’t warn us not to take any photographs at the Afghan market.
He didn’t tell us where we could find him once we arrived at our accommodation, in case we had an issue, etc.
One evening he quickly went off in his car. He didn’t come back for hours and we all sent him messsges and asked the hurt family to contact him. He claimed that he was at the police station accounting for us. I gave him the benefit of the doubt but my other friends didn’t believe him.
He seemed to enjoy himself at the end of the the trip when he was dancing with us. We wished that we would have been like this at the rest of the time!
Nazar did at the very beginning of the very kindly buy us peaches, gapes and apricots. However, this didn’t occur during the rest of the trip. I think that he had given up with us by then!
The only benefit is using Nazar was that we spent time with Kyrgyz nomads since they were related to him.
We did get to the airport for our flight home. I was concerned during the trip that he would disappear, he would get lost or his car would break down stopping us getting there. It was a miracle that we made it in one piece!
Therefore, if you want a driver who doesn’t seem to be interested in engaging with you, has a car with faults, cannot speak great English and isn’t a guide then please choose Nazar. If not, then take my advice and go elsewhere!!

Nazar made our Pamir Highway experience unforgettable. Very flexible, customer oriented, solving unexpected issues immediately. Which is crucial while you are in remote areas of high Pamir. The drivers Nazar has provided were extremely professional, helpful and friendly. Strongly recommend to use Nazar's service in planing your journey to Central Asia.

Nazar respod very good/fast. Answered All queetions we had. Problém is that cár we booked according the pictures, looked completely different in reality. At the end we díd nôt také the cár from Nazar but rent from the other guy. With another car we got another problems. Price of rentals in Tadjikistan is very high without any insurance and level of servis in generál IS very very low. Country is beautiful, but they still must to learn how to serve the customers..its pitty, thats the reason, why turism is so low in Tadjikistan, however country provide a lot!

Many thanks to Nazar and his wonderful driver Behrouz. Our tour of western Tajikistan was wonderful. Firstly, Nazar proposed a very good program, which he adapted to our order. Secondly, he and Behrouz were able to implement this program. We hope to return in a year for a continuation - a tour of the Pamirs.

Nazir and I traveled along the Pamir Highway in early July for 10 days. It was great! “Dangerously beautiful” was the haunting phrase when we were there. I wish we had explored more places and spent more days on the road. Nazir is helpful and reliable, not to mention he speaks excellent English. We were lucky enough to have Kanata as our driver/guide, the best driver ever. And he speaks English too! There were places where it seemed impossible to climb, the Yumchum fortress, but Kanat did it! And of course, the long trip along the Pyanj River was not easy. We were very impressed! Thank you, Nazir! Thank you, Kanat!

Nazar did a good job on our 2 week tour of 4 stans. However, there were a few problems, 2 of which I think he should have anticipated. He (as a Tajikistan citizen) could not enter Kyrgyzstan, so we were delayed at the border and had to get another guide and driver in Kyrgyzstan. Also, we were detained at the Uzbekistan airport because DRONES ARE BANNED FROM ENTRY INTO UZBEKISTAN (AND TAJIKISTAN). As a result, we had to fly back to Istanbul, then fly to Kazakhstan. This rearranged our trip, eliminated Tajikistan entirely and added $5000 to our trip cost!
These problems should have been avoided with the aid of the guide.
That said, Nazar is a good guide and we had a good visit to 3 of 4 stans.

From Nazar I rented the UAZ. The perfect car to explore Tajikistan. The car was strong and reliable and gives a more adventurous feeling than a modern 4x4. The car is simple and easy to repair. Nazar gave me a toolbox and some important spare parts. The car didn't break down, but needs 'a little love' during the trip. It's part of the adventure. Nazar was helpfull with advices in Tajikistan: where to go and the "do's and don'ts" in this beautiful country! Thank you very much Nazar!!!
Mark During the trip, he never complained. He was a professional driver. Mark Some parts replaced even himself. Thanks for everything Mark. Hope you had a wonderful trips.
