Hi, I’m Quwat — a local guide from the autonomous Republic of Karakalpakstan located on the North-West of Uzbekistan, one of Central Asia’s most mysterious and untouched regions.
This is not a typical destination. Here, you’ll stand on the dried seabed of the Aral Sea, one of the world’s greatest environmental disasters, where rusting ships now rest in the middle of a desert. You’ll explore the Savitsky Museum, home to the second-largest collection of Russian Avant-Garde art in the world — often called the “Louvre of the desert.”
But what makes my tours different is what lies beyond the guidebooks.
I take you deep into ancient Khorezm — to remote desert fortresses like Ayaz Kala and Toprak Kala, where empires once ruled and silence now tells their story. You’ll experience authentic local culture, real stories, and landscapes that most travelers never get to see.
And just as important — you’ll travel safely and comfortably. Day 1 — Moynaq to the Aral Sea
Departure from Nukus in the morning.
Visit the ship cemetery in Moynaq and the local Aral Sea museum to understand the history of the Aral Sea disaster.
Traditional lunch at a local house in Moynaq.
Continue driving across the former seabed of the Aral Sea toward the dramatic landscapes of the Ustyurt Plateau, with stops at canyons and a nomadic cemetery.
Arrive at a yurt camp and settle in.
Short drive to the Aral Sea shore for sunset, photos, and optional swimming (weather permitting).
Dinner at the camp and overnight stay under the stars, with a chance to see the Milky Way.

Day 2 — Sunrise & Return Journey
Sunrise over the Aral Sea.
Breakfast at the camp, then departure.
Visit Kurgancha Kala, then continue to a Soviet-era village (KS7), where you can see local life and try fermented camel milk.
Next stop is Sudochye Lake, a desert oasis with rich birdlife and ruins of an old fish factory.
Lunch in Kungrad district.
Visit the sacred Mizdakhkan Necropolis before returning to Nukus.
Drop-off at hotel, airport, or train station.

I had a great experience on this custom tour! Quwat paired me with a very nice driver who spoke a bit of english and a guide, Azko, who spoke fluent english. Azko is a tourism major in university, which means he is very knowledgeable about the history of Karakalpakstan specifically and Uzbekistan in general! He answered all my questions and provided me with overall context on the region as well as specific information on the places we visited! On top of that, he was very friendly and nice to spend time with. He taught me a lot, not only about the history and legends of the places we visited, but also about the culture and customs of the country.
