Sergey.

Me and my girlfriend booked Surgey for 13-23 August 2026 after speaking with him, so we were sure about his availability so we could book airplane tickets. He confirmed that we could do a trip with him from 15-22 August, so we booked our tickets to Almaty from Cyprus and we paid the 10% deposit to indyguide This happened 2,5 - 3 months before our trip. As the trip was approaching I was sending him messages on whats app to coordinate our trip and to have the itinerary of our tour. He was telling me that he’ll send later. I was patiently waiting for his answer. He didn’t answer so I sent him another message. This happened 3 times. When we were 2 weeks before our flight I told him that he HAS to answer because we needed a guide for our trip! He told me that his programme was fully booked and double booked with other groups! I confronted him as he told me that he was available those dates! We desperately needed a guide so Surgey found us another guide, a friend of his so we could do the tour with him. We didn’t actually had a choice and we confirmed to do the tour with Adil, the new guide. Unfortunately Adil knew very basic English so we could not be fluent with our conversation and we were very much depended on the google translate. That was ok but we had firstly booked the tour with Surgey who knew English and I paid that pricetag anyway. Our guide, Adil, was really very helpful and together we made the itinerary pretty easily. He was very skilled, as he was driving safely on the hard roads. Always willing to change the programme on the spot and very kind and patient. We had a flat tyre twice and he fixed everything! We even helped other people whose car tyres were burst! His 4x4 car was well equipped with spare tyre, cooling box, drone for photos and videos and the seats were very comfortable. He was so funny and every night he lighted up the shisha for us! He was making all the arrangements and conversations with the guest houses and he always arranged proper food for my vegetarian girlfriend. During one of the many hikes he helped my girlfriend climb as she was stuck in a very steep hill! Overall despite our communication with Surgey (thus the 4 stars) Adil was the perfect guide for our trip. Having said that, we recognise that the communication in general is difficult, even if you speak the language, as there are some cultural differences between the way we are used to communicate and the way Kazakh people do. At some level we understand that so we did not have many expectations on that level. I post some photos with us and Adil and of course the burst tyre!

Sergey's services was just perfect for what we needed during our long layover tour of Almaty. He was easy to communicate with and offered us the best value for money. He met us at the appointed time at the airport and was thoughtful enough to bring us an additional outer layer of warm clothes (just in case). He planned our day so we were able to make the most of the layover, visiting Chimbulak and the highlights of Almaty city. He gladly took great pictures of the four of us and was flexible to our needs. We enjoyed our trip with Sergey. While he lists English as one of his languages, most of the communication is through Google Translate. It works but does pose some restrictions. What came as a bit of a surprise (and a first for us in 40 years of independent travel) was that with the base pricing of the trip we also had to pay for Sergey's food and lodging (not just our own as was expected). This was not very clear during the booking process. The trip itself was great fun and included everything as promised. Recommended as a guide!

It was excellent. My first two days in Kazakhstan were two trips organised by Sergey - Charyn Canyon and Big Almaty Lake. He can communicate well in English and gave me a great welcome to the country.

BEST GUIDE IN KAZAKHSTAN!!! 10/10!!! Sergey is an amazing guide, has very good English and speaks some pretty decent French. His vehicle is an absolute beast, and excellent for off-roading. He has tons of connections, and can help you find a place to stay, eat great food, and is a genuinely caring and attentive man who makes the adventure travel experience outstanding. He’s also got lots of suggestions and knows places/people the guidebooks/forums don’t mention. I would HIGHLY recommend Sergey, he is worth every single dollar!

Sergey was an amazing guide who was very accommodating and attentive. His experience was evident as he navigated the roads with his trusty four-wheel drive van. My wife and I have five young children, and Sergey helped them to have an amazing experience. Kaindy Lake, Kolsai Lake, and the homestay in the village Saty, complete with traditional Kazakh cooking that included delicious manty, were all just amazing. The highlight for our family was Charyn canyon. It was simply incredible. I highly recommend Sergey as the tour he provided was just amazing. If you really want to experience some of the best that Kazakhstan has to offer, go with Sergey and you will not be disappointed!

Everything went really well. Communication with Sergey was very easy, he planned the 2 days trip thoughtfully. Our driver Pavel spoke some words German, no English but communication was no problem at all as he was very attentive, accommodative, considerate, experienced and friendly. The road (?) was partly really rougn, but he was a great driver and the car was a very good one (plus comfortable), too. We stayed a night a Kamays guesthouse which is highly recommended, too. Sergey was a great guide! Nothing to complain. Picked me up at the land border between Kazakhstan and Kyrgstan and from there we did a 3 day-2 night tour. Very good driver and was very open to any suggestion in the tour. Also was very helpful with requests – I wanted to drive an old Lada and he arranged it easily. The car was perfect for the road conditions. Guesthouse was very clean and people there were also very nice. I definitely recommend Sergey as a guide.

We were on a 3 day tour with Sergey from Almaty to Karakol. We had a rough idea what we wanted to do and see, and Sergey arranged an excellent itinerary for us. He is very knowledgeable about the area, showed us some wonderful spots off the beaten track, and is a safe and courteous driver. He is obviously very passionate about the outdoors and was very well prepared for our trip. We had a great time, definitely recommended!

We spent several days only my sister and I with the amazing Sergey in August. Honestly, if you`re looking for a proper guide who is not afraid of showing you the real country and its hidden landscapes, you definitely have to book Sergey as your guide. We had an amazing trip thanks to him : Sergey is adventurous, fearless, funny and takes good care of your needs. He perfectly planned hikings, breaks and visits of some unknown small cities. You will discover the country not from the tourist eyes but from the kazakh point of view. And he`s a good cook if you chose the tent`s option :) I will definitely recommand you his services !

Used rather old and uncomfortable replacement vans as his better ones were supposedly out of service. No compensation offered. Other than that: service fine and Charyn is an awesome place to visit nevertheless.

Sergey recommended us different guide, Dorzh. We are group of 6 friens and we traveled with Dorzh for 4 days through Altyn Emel and canyons. Those were our best days in Kazachstan! Dorzh is real rebel! Traveling with him was adventure, but of the best kind. He quickly understood that we like hiking and special experience, a bit extreme, and he took us to beatiful places, where we could explore the unusual landscape of Altyn Emel and canyons. He took us to the very top of Aktau, the white mountains, which was probably the most bueatiful experience. We climbed Singing dunes, than discover not only Charyn canyon (place full of tourists), but also all side canyons such as Timerlik, Yellow Canyon and Moon landscape, where we were completely alone! We slept in tents under stars, always near source of water (rivers, fountains...) - it was very pleasant to have a "bath" after whole dusty day on desert/canyon. Dorzh cooked us the best vegeterian meals we had in Kazachstan - he is great cook, thank you! His porridge for breakfast was unforgetable. And he helped us to understand that distances in kazachstan are completely different than in Europe = 100km can take a whole day in car and 2km can be 4hours hard hike :) This was valuable lesson. But thanks to his amazing comfortable car and to his driving experience we could manage everything much quicker. Dorzh took us by car even to the places where we would be afraid by foot! So if you don´t want only to sit in a car but you want to experience the country more by yourself, we really recommend Dorzh for your guide. You´ll have fun, promise :)

Sergey is an excellent driver and a very experienced guide. We felt very safe all the time, including on off-road trips and sleeping in the tent he provided us. he speaks English enough to communicate. He is really very helpful. We just didn’t go to one of the of the arranged places (one lake) but we completely understood it was too far away. we had a great and unforgettable time and definitely recommend Sergey as a guide in Kazakhstan!

Sergey is an excellent guide and driver. We felt absolutely safe with him. He gave us a lot of explanations - about monuments, but also about people and traditions in Kazakhstan. His car is big and well equipped. Sergey arrived punctually. He was always prepared to stop for food, toilet or pictures. We can recommend Sergey warm-heartedly.

Sergey actually referred us to his employee Victor. Victor is a nice guy and a very good driver. His English is rather limited. This was not a problem for general communication, but it made chatting a bit cumbersome. He is not a good cook and not good at camping, so if you go with him, I would recommend staying at inns.

We visited Altyn Emel National Park and Charon Canyon, including camping overnight. Sergei picked us up and drove us to all of the sights that we had requested within the national parks. He was efficient and managed the details of the trip very well - we had asked to visit several sites and he accommodated our wishes despite it involving long driving times. With regards the camping, he provided all of the equipment (for sleeping and cooking) and took us to buy food before leaving Almaty. The car was comfortable (although not luxurious) and was well suited to the off-road driving that the trip required. It is worth noting that Sergei does not speak English beyond a few basic words and so communication was a bit difficult at times. He has a translation app which was very helpful (he could have used it more often I think), but occasionally we missed out on important information due to the language barrier. For example, we did not understand how to make the Singing Sand Dune sing because we did not understand his gestures. Obviously this isn’t a criticism, but worth being aware of. For the Singing Sand Dune we would advise Sergei to maybe print out some instructions in English so that English-speaking visitors get more out of a trip to the dunes. All in all, the trip was well planned and well supervised (even if, at times, a little more advice/guidance would have been helpful). If you are looking for creature comforts, then this is probably not for you, but if you want a simple, back-to-basics trip with a competent guide (and excellent driver) then I’d thoroughly recommend Sergei.

We did a 4-day tour with a group of five people, and I have to say, we could not have had a better guide!!! Sergey knew the area like no other, he could tell us stories, and knew where to go at what time. For example, some roads were blocked because of landslides, and we were worried that we wouldn`t get to see all the landmarks we were supposed to see. He just made up an alternative route, thatwas just as amazing. One day we got stuck becuse the car had a leak in the engine. Sergey got out, told us to wait half an hour, fixed it, and we kept on going without any issues. He is prepared for any situation, is patient, funny, and flexible. He took us to spots that we would have never found without a guide. We all had an absolutely amazing four days and would book another tour without hesitation.

A great trip! Sergey is a very good guide. Pick up right at the agreed time. Safe and restful drive to the canyon where he professionally presented everything. On the way we stopped at the cheap and tasty place for a dinner. I highly recommend trips with this guide. Wspaniała wcieczka. Sergiej to bardzo dobry przewodnik. Punktualny przyjazd w umówione miejsce. Bezpieczna i spokojna jazda do kanionu. Na miejscu pokazał wszystko w profesjonalny sposób. Po drodze postój w sprawdzonym i tanim miejscu na obiad. Kazachstan is a beautiful country with amazing and welcoming people. I recommend everyone to go there and get to know this country better, it’s so worth it. I read a lot of tourists’ opinions and recommendations while I was looking for a good driver. Sergey as a guide and a driver showed us everything that we wanted to see and more. This trip with him was a great and unforgettable adventure. He was well prepared, had everything we needed (off road car, tents etc). In addition while we were traveling he was telling us about the culture and history of Kazachstan, which was great. I learned so much. If you have any doubts - please don’t. Sergey is an amazing guide! You will fall in love with Kazachstan, I’m sure about that.

We had a great journey to Charyn Canyon and Kolsai lakes with Sergey on 16-17 September 2017. He took us to explore the region (Charyn Canyon, Kaindy Lake and Kolsai Lake), experience Kazakh culture and have a really fun time in a cozy guesthouse. Stars we saw in a village were unforgettable: you can see tens of millions of stars.

We booked a daytip only a day in advance and were worried it would not be possible to actually do but Sergey responded to our message very quickly and we had a quick call to discuss best day trip from Almaty. He was very flexible but because already on another trip he arranged for his friend Anatoli to take us to Charyn canyon in his awesome 4x4 truck. During the trip we stopped few times to check out few interesting spots and Anatoli was very accommodating in driving off route and off road just for us to take a great picture or to find us locals selling fresh horse milk. On the way back we stopped for dinner at a restaurant where you can catch your own fish, very enjoyable overall.

At the beginning of August me and my girlfriend had a fantastic 5-day tour with Sergey. We slept in a tent for three nights and stayed for one night in a guest house. We visited Altyn Emel Park and had a great climb up to the Aktau mountains in Altyn Emel park, climbed up the Singing dune and walked there. We drove and walked through Charyn Canyon and hiked for six hours from Kolsai lake 1 to number 2 and returned to lake 1. Of course we visited Lake Kaindy. The last place we visited was Plateau Assy. An absolutely stunning place! Sergey is very friendly, a reliable driver and does everything to make sure you have a great time. We strongly recommend him as a guide! The 5-day tour has been the best 5 days in Kazakhstan for us.

We had a 3-day tour with Sergey from Almaty to Charyn Canyon, overnight in Temerlik Canyon in tents, lakes Kolsay and Kaindy, overnight near lake Kaindy in tents and back to Almaty all inclusive. Sergey is a very experienced driver who knows his car, terrain, weather, has lots of useful things with him to solve any situation on the road (not only tents and food, also washing water, sunsheet, repellents etc.). He knows places along the way to get great local dining, he knows people in the area, which is super helpful and made our trip absolutely smooth and care free. We were 6 women so we needed that feeling of safety and Sergey was very good at providing this. I recommend his services to anyone who wants to explore real Kazakhstan and natural beauty of this country.

We had a very smooth experience in the process of arranging our trip with Sergey and he was a great guide on our trips to Charyn Canyon as well as Issyk Lake and Turgen Waterfall. We took two day trips out of Almaty starting 8:30AM. Sergey drove well at good speed and we were always made to feel comfortable. We enjoyed the variety he offered, passing by animal markets on the way, a stop for a fresh baked bread from the tandoor oven on the way or jumping on the roof for a small ride once inside the canyon to make it very fun and diverse. He not only provided us with various suggestions for lunch but also listened to what we were after...which was a local normal priced spot with authentic food and thats exactly what we got! delicious shashlik of duck and lamb, traditional noodles and manti. All in all a fair price, nice guide and great experience of Kazakhstan!

We were really lucky to be on this tour. Sergey was a wonderful guide and was dedicated, trustworthy and skilful in adventure tours. He brought us to so many beautiful places in Kazakhstan and beyond. At the end of the tour he even went out of the way to arrange a taxi for us to our next destination because we can`t speak Russian. We spent 3 days at Sharyn Canyon, Kolsai Lakes and Kaindy Lake with Dorzhi, Sergey`s assistant. Dorzhi is a dynamic, sporty and funny young man, and an excellent cook. His English skills may have to be improved but we managed to comunicate perfectly.

We would like to thank our guide Dorje for the fantastic adventure. After the tour it felt like he was not only our guide but also our friend. Its a man with his own style, but to discover the real Kazakhstan its the man you need!

We had an excellent trip with Sergey and would definitely recommend him to other travelers. He was on time to pick us up, and throughout the day he was aware of timings to ensure we got enough time in each place. His knowledge of the country was very interesting and informative, and although he doesn`t speak much English, communication was not a problem at all. Sergey catered the trip to what we wanted to do, but was also realistic and gave advice on timings and activities. Thank you Sergey, a great trip!
