Sergey has lived his whole life on the Mangyshlak Peninsula around Aktau, on the Caspian Sea, and has spent three years organizing and running tours across the region.
His trips cover the landscapes of Mangystau: the canyons and chalk formations of the Ustyurt Plateau, Bozzhyra and Tuzbair, the Valley of Balls, the Valley of Castles, Sherkala Mountain, and the underground mosques scattered across the peninsula. He runs everything from single-day outings from Aktau to multi-day routes of up to seven or eight days, with nights in tents, at a visitor center, or in a yurt camp.
Sergey guides and drives personally in a 4x4 SUV, and for larger bookings or overlapping dates he works with a small team of certified guides and drivers using similar off-road vehicles. He takes travelers individually rather than joining people into group departures, and keeps car groups small, usually up to three people per vehicle. Routes, overnight stays and the number of days are worked out with each traveler before the trip, and meals, water, camping gear and park entrance fees are arranged as part of the tour.
He says guiding people through this landscape is a job he has come to genuinely enjoy.
