About Dildabek

Hi there, I am Dildabek an English- speaking freelance tour guide based in Almaty city. I am the father of four children and two grandsons. As a tour guide I am working in Almaty city and region, Shymkent city and Turkestan region. For my guests I use my personal car (Toyota sedan car with 4 passenger seats). For a larger number of tourists, it is possible to rent a minibus. In the past I worked in diplomacy, international relations and for many years I was engaged in business law in international companies. I also had a good experience in government relations for an international company. I love mountains and used to be a mountaineer. This also helps me to take my guests to amazing places in the mountains and deserts. All this and my life experience give me the opportunity to tell guests a lot of historical and cultural information about the country, as well as truthful stories about the lives of ordinary local people. I also enjoy chatting with my guests on any topic in a casual, often humorous manner. I believe that knowledge of history and love of nature help us to better understand ourselves and others. The masterclass will be finished by a traditional Kazakh feast with tasting of the self-cooked dishes and homemade Ayran. A master class on preparing an ancient nomadic dish is very simple and engaging. You join a modern Kazakh family in the center of the large city of Almaty. Here, together with the chef, who is also the housewife, you learn how to prepare a specific dish and participate in the cooking process itself. They explain and demonstrate how this nomadic dish is prepared. Overall, you are immersed in the exciting process of cooking. After the food is prepared, you sit down with the chef and his family members at the table and share the dish. The preparation itself takes 2 to 3 hours. Dinner with a Kazakh family in Almaty and tasting of dishes of the ancient nomadic cuisine of the Kazakhs. 3-hour communication with an ordinary Kazakh family in the city of Almaty in their private house, acquaintance with the life of this family and its members. And an additional bonus - a lively educational conversation about Kazakh national cuisine and Kazakh national customs. A unique experience of acquaintance with the life of a local family. Ancient nomadic home-made dishes of Kazakhs from lamb, horse meat and beef, such as et, beshbarmak, pilaf, kazy, kebab, sorpa, kuyrdak, etc. You will also be able to enjoy the national bread of nomads - nan, bauyrsak, shelpek. We stopped in several local restaurants for local Uzbek cuisine which I was familiar with prior to the this trip and eager to experience again. Given how Central Asia has played a role in the ancestry of so many regions Dildabek helped question my own origins and ethnic ancestry which was not something I had expected just going on a `holiday` which was made it more interesting. He was a very good guide and I would be comfortable recommending him to experienced travelers with similar interests.

My wife and I spent 2 successive days traveling to Turkistan and to Taraz to visit the historic sites. Dildabek is a good and fast driver in a nice Toyota. He knows the history of all the sites and is a passionate advocate of his nomad heritage. He is trustworthy, honest, and thorough, and will adjust his itinerary if you tell him what you want to see, in our case 2 new and worthwhile museums - Shymkent Regional Museum and Ancient Taraz Regional Museum.

Dildabek is a very fascinating man and a great tour guide. He took me from my hotel in Shymkent to Taraz and still managed to show me Aisha bibi and a few of the sites of ancient Taraz despite our short time frame. He is very knowledgeable about Kazakhstan and I learnt a lot along the way. Due to the brief shutting of the border between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan I was unable to meet my next guide as he could not leave Kyrgyzstan, so Dildabek worked hard with my hotel to arrange alternate transport for me to the border, where I would meet my Kyrgyzstan guide. I appreciate the effort he made so I could make it to my next destination on time. I can definitely recommend Dildabek for your South Kazakhstan tours.
