About Karma

Kuzu Zangpo! Kuzuzangpo is a Bhutanese greeting that means “Good Health". My name is Karma. I am a passionate, ardent traveler, curious about people, food and cultures, traditions, landscapes, nature and unique experiences we all get from our journeys. My own journey took a long time. I was born and raised in a small far-flung and idyllic village in Eastern Bhutan. Without TV or telephone, life was slow but woven in the tapestry of tradition, religion and community that respects all cultures and thrived in complete harmony with nature. During my primary school years, I spent weekends and holidays herding cattle, doing family chores and helping on the farms surrounded by pristine environment and majestic Himalayan mountains. After completing my engineering education, I worked for the Royal Government of Bhutan as a systems manager for almost 15 years and moved on to live in 4 countries; Ethiopia (Addis Ababa), Thailand (Bangkok), USA (New York) and Lebanon (Beirut) between 2002 to 2016. Having lived in different countries of contrasting cultures & traditions and having had opportunities to interact with people from all walks of life and background, gave me a great opportunity to appreciate my own cultural heritage and value the age-old traditions I was brought up in. That is why I started my own travel company specializing in responsible and sustainable tours to Bhutan for small groups, family and private trips that directly support local communities and guarantee authentic experiences ensuring minimal impact on the environment. Some of my favourite activities that I include in each of my tour programs are letting my guests immerse in our unique culture through experiential learning, visiting a family home and savouring home-cooked local cuisines, participating in farming and communal events essential for thriving community vitality. Of course, a trip to Bhutan is incomplete without indulging in gentle walking and hiking through nature enjoying the pristine environment that Bhutan has fiercely protected over centuries. Even during the trekking adventures, we ensure that our guests have immersive time interacting with local people living at high altitudes and experiencing their way of life. I spent 10 nights in Bhutan with Karmas Team. I don't have anything negative to say. They were friendly, polite, professional, hospitable and flexible. All people I've been in touch with, via email and WhatsApp, were also prompt and helpful. They arranged a comfortable vehicle. Most accommodation choices were great, with highlights in Thimphu, Phobjikha and Bumthang. I felt like a King on a Grand Tour. They were always upbeat and had no issues with accommodating my sometimes strange needs, including getting up unreasonably early for hikes, or arriving at the day's destination early for me to explore the town on my own. The only problem with Bhutan is that the Bhutan experience sets the hospitality bar so high, that many other countries disappoint... Can wholeheartedly recommend Karma and his tem and will do a trip with them again, to eastern Bhutan.

One of the best tour operators I've ever worked with! From the moment I reached out, communication was incredibly easy and adaptive to my needs. I booked on very short notice, and Karma and his team were able to help me through the process and give me multiple options that fit what I wanted (the itinerary doesn't have to be fixed - just tell them what you're interested in and they'll make it happen!). On the ground, my guide Sonam and driver Jigme were incredible, providing answers to all my questions, adjusting the trip to fit my wants each day, and being great travel companions. The trip itself covered tons of cultural locations and had beautiful hikes nearly every day, which is exactly what I wanted. I chose to take things relatively slow so that I could soak up each location and not feel like we were running from place to place, which I think is the best way to do Bhutan if you have the time. Additionally, since almost everything is included (besides admission fees and tips), I rarely had to think about money throughout the trip, which allowed me to focus on my experience and the beauty of where I was. Overall, absolutely incredible trip, and couldn't recommend booking with Karma enough! If I'm lucky enough to make it back, absolutely will use them again
